Research findings relating to the effects of protein-enriched meal replacement shakes

With a very real interest in the effects of the modern diet on children, I have dedicated my studies to the relationships between obesity and associated metabolic disorders.
Working closely with my team at the Ulm University in Germany, we have recently completed experimental research on the alleviation of the obesity epidemic through meal replacement shakes. Quite a controversial area of nutrition, we have uncovered some interesting results which I am excited to share on the Herbalife Wellness Tour in Australia and New Zealand.
Our study revolved around the evaluation of long-term weight management programmes and preventative strategies for nutrition-related disorders. We found that drinking protein-enriched meal replacement shakes actually leads to more effecting weight management than simply limiting calories.
Obesity is, without a doubt, an epidemic in Australia, and it is unfortunate that current trends predict that by the time a person reaches the age of 20, the next generation will have a shorter life expectancy than earlier generations due to expanding waistlines!
Focusing on the role of protein during weight loss and maintenance of low body weight after weight loss, a very interesting point in our results is that 64% of those in the high protein group were considered to be at much lower risk of common health problems associated with being overweight, compared with 41% who consumed the standard amount of protein.
I am hoping to use the results from my study to offer insight into the alleviation of obesity, and specifically, the importance of changes in macronutrient composition of diets – both in Australia and my home, Germany.
On a global scale, statistics show that between 2002 and 2010, the number of countries where more than 20% of 11, 13 and 15 year olds are overweight, rose from 5 to 11. This is a startling figure, and one I truly believe needs to change to ensure our future generations are living the best life possible.
As part of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board, we aim to help, inform and educate members of the public on the principles of good nutrition. During the Herbalife Wellness Tour, I’ll be working with attendees addressing feasible daily nutrition ideas in the modern age, obesity prevention and therapy in adults for both themselves, and to better help their children. The key to optimum health is a basic formula; a combination of healthy nutrition, self-monitoring of one’s progress and regular physical activity, yet it seems we need to be reminded of this.
In line with this research, Herbalife have also released their Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix tested by an Australian University – it is an excellent complement to the results of my research and offers a great solution to incorporating essential macronutrients into your diet. I’m excited to be part of this Wellness Tour and hope to encourage a change in figures on obesity here in Australia!
