How to Choose the Best Electrician

Whether you need and electrician for a large job, such as wiring a brand new home, or commercial space or replacing faulty/outdated wiring, or you just need one for a small job, such as wiring up an outlet for a new light or security system, you want to make sure you choose the best electrician for the job. No matter how large or small, choosing the right electrician is important - not just to your budget, but because you want to make sure the work is done correctly and according to safety specifications, too.

So how do you go about choosing the right electrician?

There are a few simple tips to go by when choosing the best electrician that won’t steer you wrong. Here’s a few:

License/Insurance

Always choose an electrician that is licensed (and make sure that license is up to date and hasn’t expired). Depending on the type of license the electrician holds, you may also need for them to be insured. Check their credentials before hiring them for any job. Hiring an apprentice or a retired electrician might save you money upfront, but if they aren’t up to date on the latest safety updates and specifications, you might pay for it in the long run.

Quotes/Prices

Always take the time to compare at least three quotes from local, similar electricians. See how they differ in terms of labor and parts cost and choose the one that seems to be the best value for money when compared to their reputation, time frame, and so on. It might not always be the cheapest one! Of course, there’s no problem in getting a deal, so if someone offers you a great price and they have a good reputation, there’s no reason not to go with them.

Recommendations and Reviews

Check out sites like Angie’s List, Google Reviews and more to read reviews on your electrician/electrical company. Look for any issues, rants or problems. Choose the electrician who has the most reviews and “stars”. It’s always a good idea to do your research beforehand and choose an electrician that has a good reputation in dealing with people and providing adequate services. The price may be right but their customer service needs to be on point, too.

Overall Vibe

Trust your instincts when it comes to hiring any person, whether we’re talking about an electrician or other service person. If something doesn’t feel quite right, don’t ignore that instinct. Even if the price is slightly higher elsewhere, or they come with great reviews, you know who you should hire and who you shouldn’t. Listen to your gut.

If you follow these simple and intuitive tips, you’ll be able to choose a great electrician in no time and get that wiring job done, easy peasy. There are lots of great licensed and affordable electricians out there who would be happy to take on a job for you!
