Showing Your Boss That You're Ready To Be Promoted

If you work for an employer and have been in the same job role for a while now, then it is quite easy to assume that there will be a promotion that will come along soon that will be perfect for you. The thing is, that isn’t always a guarantee in order to take things to the next level in your career. Often you need to log more work hours, and sometimes you need to physically speak to someone to say that you are interested in a certain promotion, rather than waiting for them to come to you.

If you are ready to take your career to the next level, then here are some things to think about, when it comes to being ready for a promotion. You might need to let someone know, and you might need to put in a little extra work. A promotion won’t be far away when you are committed, dedicated, and show just how passionate you are.

Make your boss’s job easier

It can be a lot of work, but if you can help to make the job that your boss has to do much easier, then it really puts you in a good place to get a promotion. It is all about gaining trust with your line manager and showing them that you can step up, use your initiative, and that you know exactly what you are doing. If they trust you to do some of their work, as an example, then it stands you in good stead for things later down the line. They will have time to do other business developing things, and as things work their way up, you will get noticed.

Positive attitude

If you are looking to get promoted to a more senior position, perhaps with more management responsibilities, then you need to show that you are the kind of person who can keep their cool when things are busy and stressful. Someone who flips out and doesn’t act as a role model to those around them doesn’t exactly scream management material, or the kind of person that you want in charge of big business decisions. So when there are stressful times or when issues arise, think about solving them with a much more positive attitude, and it will stand out to those people above you.

Keep learning

If you are keen to be promoted, then it is important to think about the things that you need to do to be able to get a promotion. Sometimes there will be courses or qualifications that you will need to have in order to progress, and other times there are some skills that are going to be desirable and help to make you stand out in the crowd. If there is something specific that would help you to get promoted, then speak to your employer about it. It may be that they can help you to get onto a course, like the ones from Pacific Training Group, to help you to have more expertise in a certain area. Make it known that you are interested in a course, for example, and then it shows to them that you are eager to progress and learn more. Never just presume that they know your intentions.

Take pride in what you do

Working in a way that shows that you are proud of what you do and pleased with your work will show to an employer that you are competent, loyal, diligent, and intelligent. When you take pride in what you do, then it shows, and it makes a difference to the people that you work alongside too. If you show that you are serious about your work and you take your impact in the business seriously, then it will help to show employers that you can be trusted to do a good job with a position of responsibility.

Show how you can solve problems

Part of getting promoted is showing that you have the initiative and knowledge to help clients to solve their problems. Again, this shows to an employer that they can trust you doing something when they may not be around, so when there are chances to improve things for a client or to problem solve, make sure that you are showing what you can do. Working independently to get something done plays a part in this, as it shows that you don’t need your hand to be held along the way.

Communication is another clear aspect of this. Your boss won’t know that you’re looking to be promoted unless you talk about it. Employers tend to want to recruit from within where possible, so do make your intentions known.
