I’m loving your label, //Out Incorporated. Tell us a bit about the label.
We care about fitness and have always had a penchant for fashion and beauty given our backgrounds.
We wanted to hit the gym in items minus the motivation motifs and neon pink detailing. Today’s woman is discerning and sophisticated. We wanted to create an offering which showed women that it is ok to be sexy.
Is there a story behind your brand name //Out Incorporated?
We wanted to design garments which could literally take you from a day at the office, to a flight to New York, to a walk on the treadmill…//OUT is our call to women to get more //OUT of their wardrobe.
We encourage women to WORK//OUT, STRETCH//OUT, BREATHE//OUT and GO//OUT in style.
Three business women working together to create a new label. How do you ensure you agree on the direction to take the business?
The three of us working together had been a tried and tested model at LVMH. In fact what had spurred us to work together was the fact that we had enough work history to see that our unique strengths (and weaknesses) complimented each other.
We often laugh about the fact that we couldn’t do this business without the unique dynamic presented by 3 strong and unique personalities. For us, Libby is ‘GET IT DONE’, Lauren is ‘GET IT ORGANISED’ and Leah is ‘GET IT RIGHT’. This is a very non-traditional way of looking at an organisation, however as part of our corporate culture, we are interested in having a unique spin which is more in line with a woman’s ‘model of the world’.
What have been your biggest wins to date?
There have been so many highlights for us, however I would have to say that the official opening of our first store in Newport Beach, California, was a real ‘dreams really do come true’ moment.
Moving continents was not an easy task. As such, having all of our garments beautifully merchandised, in a fabulous location, surrounded by our patrons… we had a lot to celebrate.
What have been your biggest hurdles?
We have had a number of challenges, like any new business, however the biggest challenge for us has been that we want things to happen fast.
After working in the corporate world we are used to having a host of people to get behind our ideas. Having your own business is absolutely liberating, however you have to be willing to get your hands dirty to maintain the momentum.
Where is your label currently stocked?
We have a store in Newport Beach, an e-commerce website and we’re currently stocked at Ron Robinson | Fred Segal on Melrose, Los Angeles.
We will soon be distributing through other select retailers. We are keen to keep building the brand both in The USA and Australia in view of changing the way women think about their active wardrobes.
