Tasks to Complete While Business is Slow

Most businesses, at some point, face hard times. Let’s face it, most companies are, at the moment, facing a hard time. On a global scale, we’re facing challenges, both at home and at work, which we have never faced before, and it’s terrifying. You won’t be alone if you’ve spent hours wondering what the future will bring, worried and uncertain. Nor will you be alone if you’ve felt sick with anxiety over it all.

Unfortunately, with situations changing day to day, it’s hard to know when this might end, when business might pick up, and when life could start to return to normal. In the long-term, we might all face some difficult decisions. There’s just no telling. But, in the short term, if your business is still open, and you are still trying to make a living, there are some tasks that you can complete while things are slow, that you might not get time for during other periods.

Stocktaking

Stocktaking is never the most exciting of tasks, and fortunately, online stock systems mean that it’s not as crucial for many of us than it would once have been. But, doing the occasional full stock take is still a good idea. It helps you to spot flaws in your security or vulnerabilities with your online systems. It also helps you to see what stock you are holding and where you might be wasting money. So, while things are quiet, get stuck into a full stock take.

Staff Appraisals

Staff appraisals are another essential that often gets left behind when we’re busy. This is a great time to sit down with your staff, or even get them on FaceTime, to talk about their performance, their future and their happiness. Set some goals, get an idea of what they want from you, and talk about what they can do next.

Evaluate Your Insurance

Figuring out where you’re at with your insurance is another essential task you’ll want to consider. Business insurance needs change all the time. And some insurers will ask that you regularly update them, telling them how your business has changed and grown so they can recalculate your premiums.

Most commercial insurers, like Grace Insurance, offer the full range of insurance products you need to keep your company safe. For instance, you may need to update your public liability if you’ve recently opened a new location. Likewise, you may need better business travel cover if you now have operations overseas.

An SEO Overhaul

Many businesses are right now trying to take more of their systems online. This is a great chance to embrace the internet, as well as home working opportunities. Your website is a powerful tool for both communication and sales if you use it well.

Getting stuck into an SEO overhaul, updating old content and paying more attention to what’s on your site, or getting help from HESK SEO Services is a great way to increase business moving forward.

Try New Marketing Ideas

Trying new marketing ideas is always a great way to use your time. Experiment with online marketing, social media, content marketing, working with influencers and even offline campaigns.

Enjoy Some Downtime

Enforced downtime is still downtime. Try to take some time out for yourself to rest, relax and destress if you can. Try to take a break, and even to have some fun to give yourself a chance to recharge your batteries. It’s often in these spells away from our business and the day to day going that we have our best and most creative ideas.

Get on Top of Your Admin

If you’ve got piles of admin, get stuck into it. Start preparing your tax return, take a good look at your accounts and do all those bits of filing that you’ve been leaving until you’ve got a minute.
